JIS successfully operates fall show in Miami beach despite the storms in Florida

JIS, the premier event for immediate and seasonal at-show jewelry delivery, successfully concluded the fall edition from September 30 – October 3, 2022, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami Beach, FL despite Hurricane Ian which struck the state of Florida and the southeast United States and areas of the Caribbean, avoiding Miami Beach within days of the show opening. JIS closely monitored the storm and worked with local authorities and partners at the Miami Beach Convention Center to proceed with safely operating the event.

“Our sincerest thoughts are with everyone impacted by the aftermath of the storm. As our exhibitors and attendees made their way to Miami Beach, we were cognizant of the ongoing effects of Hurricane Ian and our focus was on the safety and best interests of our exhibitors, attendees and staff,” states Sara McDonough, JIS Event Director.

The fall edition delayed the opening on Friday, September 30 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a complimentary brunch and networking opportunity during that time. Show floor hours were extended on Sunday, October 2 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. McDonough explains, “The delayed opening time ensured a safe completion of event setup and provided more flexibility with attendee travel delays, and the extended show hours on Sunday, typically our busiest day, allowed for our exhibitors and retailers to make the most of their time at the show.”

Over 600 international and domestic exhibitors were represented offering a diverse assortment of products and services in several key purchasing pavilions: Fine Jewelry, the Galleria, Lab Grown, ETS, Silver & Fashion, New Exhibitor Zone, and the return of the Plumb Club to JIS as well as international pavilions such as Italy, Hong Kong, Turkey and South Africa.

In addition to the sought-after product discovery and show floor jewelry buying capabilities, JIS hosted well-attended new networking, business development and educational opportunities including an exhibitor and retailer networking reception, a cocktails & connections event, a headshot studio for professional photography, a product showcase runway and daily pavilion pop-ups for product sourcing.

New to JIS Fall was reimagined educational programming featuring daily sessions on how to increase sales and grow your business ahead of the holiday season by expert speakers Shaheen who presented on digital marketing and Kathleen Cutler who shared her expertise on luxury sales and clienteling.

“As a seasonal buying show, it was important for the JIS community to have a safe environment for face-to-face business before the holiday season. Many retailers rely on the JIS Fall show for the fulfilment of their upcoming holiday inventory needs. Once our partners confirmed it was safe to do so, we did everything possible to provide the JIS community with best-in-class buying, education and networking opportunities,” notes JIS Marketing Director, Lauren van Rensburg.

“Our pre-registration numbers were strong, pacing 28% higher than pre-pandemic numbers in 2019. Although on-site attendance numbers were reduced circumstantially, we had a 5% increase in attendance from the individual level over the Fall 2021 show. The entire JIS and RX team is grateful to everyone who attended and exhibited to make it a productive and successful event despite the very challenging circumstances. We look forward to welcoming the JIS community back in March for JIS Spring,” says McDonough.

JIS Spring will take place from March 26-28, 2023 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
